Let me read it to you.

Spring Winds (An Acrostic)

Wild and free,

In every part of the world,

Not caring about life or limb,

Destructive, they swoop over and around the Earth,

Sometimes calming, mostly upsetting.

Back Story

Here in Wyoming, even in Sheridan, where mountains shelter us, we still experience nasty winds. This inspired the above poem. Though I mostly write free verse, I sometimes write acrostics when I don’t have much to say about something and can sum it up in one or two words.

In an acrostic, the first letter of the first word of each line spells a word or words. In this case, the word being spelled is “winds.” This poem was published in the March 31st 2024 issue of The Weekly Avocet, which can be downloaded here. Thank you for reading.

Abbie wears a blue and white V-neck top with different shades of blue from sky to navy that swirl together with the white. She has short, brown hair and rosy cheeks and smiles at the camera against a black background.
