Commonplace Fun Facts
Daily, this blogger posts trivial and sometimes humorous information about anything from rockets to poetry. For example, did you know that Buzz Aldron was not only the first man to walk on the moon, but also the first man to pee on it? You never know what you’ll find here, including possible inspiration for a novel.
Seeing It My Way
Mary Hiland is the author of The Bumpy Road to Assisted Living: A Daughter’s Memoir, which I reviewed here, and Insight Out: One Blind Woman’s View of Her Life. Despite her blindness due to retinitis pigmentosa, she has enjoyed dancing, cross-country skiing, tandem bicycling, and other activities. On her blog, she posts articles about her life with vision loss.
Organizations for Writers
Wyoming Writers
This organization is open to authors from anywhere, not just Wyoming. We sponsor a contest, the deadline of which is usually in March, and a conference, usually the first weekend in June. Members receive a quarterly newsletter and more.
WyoPoets
This organization features an annual workshop held in April to commemorate National Poetry Month and an occasional reading or other event to celebrate National Poetry Day in October. We sponsor one or two contests a year and produce a chapbook every other year.
Behind Our Eyes
This is an organization for disabled writers. We’re scattered across the country and overseas. We meet via phone conference at least twice a month. We’ve published two anthologies of work by disabled authors and are working on a third. We also produce an online magazine, Magnets and Ladders.
